Hourglass Lake & the Unfinished Pop

This photo overlooks one of Disney's major eye sores...the unfinished half of the Pop Century Resort.  The half that opened houses the 50's-90's, but this unfinished side was to house 1900's-40's.  They did a lot of ground work, but halted construction after 9/11/01.  I wonder if they'll ever finish it...

The Enchanted Tiki Room

This is one of my favorite "classic" attractions at Disney World.  Although the show changed when it went "under new management," they still retain the classic Tiki Room theme song and that's worth the show to me.

Lego Dragon

Location: Downtown Disney

This dragon is made completely of Lego blocks and is located in front of the Lego store at Downtown Disney.  

Sleeping Beauty's Dress

Location: Magic Kingdom

This dress changes colors as the fairies argue over the color!  You can find this in the Princess shop behind Cinderella Castle.

Cool Light

I noticed this cool light on the way to Camp Minnie Mickey after dinner.   I especially love the vibrant colors.

Pirates of the Caribbean

This is a classic dark ride in a boat.  Modeled after the original Pirates ride at Disneyland, this ride has recently undergone renovation to add scenes and characters from the popular Pirates movies.  Here we see the famous Captain Jack Sparrow.

Disney's Contemporary Resort

This picture was taken at Christmas time, hence the lights on people's balconies.  This resort is currently being expanded to include a new Vacation Club Resort.  The original building is unique because the monorail runs right through the middle of it.

Checkers Game on Main Street USA

ABC Commissary

Authentic wardrobe from ABC's Lost.  I posted this today because after a (way-too-long) hiatus, the Lost Season Premiere is tonight.  These costumes are located in the eating area at the ABC Commissary which is a pretty good counter-service restaurant at the Studios. 

Cinderella Castle

Towel Friends

Disney's "Mousekeepers" like to surprise guests by leaving various animals and friends made from towels and washcloths.  On this particular trip (near Christmas) we also saw Christmas trees, polar bears, snowmen, etc.

Dumbo & Fantasyland

The Crystal Palace

This is the dome at the top of the Crystal Palace Restaurant in the Magic Kingdom.  The character breakfast here is awesome.  You can dine with Pooh & Friends and the food is absolutely delicious!

Kilimanjaro Safaris

Disney's Magic Music Days

Location: Magic Kingdom

A couple of years ago I took my high school band to Walt Disney World to perform as a part of the Magic Music Days. They were chosen to perform in the daytime parade at the Magic Kingdom. The kids got the experience of going "backstage" and performing for thousands of Disney guests (as you can see from the picture). It was a great experience for all involved.

Muppet Vision 3-D

This is located in the pre-show area on Muppet Vision 3-D.  It is a net full of Jello.  Get it?  Annette Funicello...the famouse Mouseketeer from the Mickey Mouse Club in the 1950's!

Chester & Hester's Dino-Rama!

Location: Disney's Animal Kingdom

Time: Dusk

Dino-Rama is located in Dinoland USA.  This section of the park is themed after a road-side fair.  There are midway games and two rides, Triceratops Spin & Primeval Whirl.  The games cost extra but you can win prizes, just like at the fair.

T-Rex Restaurant

Location: Downtown Disney

This brand new restaurant is located in the Marketplace side of Downtown Disney.  It is owned by the same company that owns the Rainforest Cafe chain which is evident by the extensive theming inside and out.  In my opinion though, the food is much better than Rainforest Cafe.  In addition to the restaurant gift shop, inside you will also find "Build-a-Dino."  Yep, it's a Build-a-Bear with all dinosaurs.

Giant Play-Doh

Disney's "Value" Resorts are the least expensive on-property resort option at Walt Disney World.  The Pop Century Resort is the newest of the value resorts.  Each section of the "Classic Years" section of this resort is themed after a different decade starting with the 1950's and going through the 1990's.  This is located in the 1950's section.  The "Legendary Years" section (once built/completed) will consist of 1900's-1940's.  More on that later...

Kilimanjaro Safari

Elephant babies are SO cute!  We spotted these on our safari ride and I couldn't resist snapping a picture.  Did you know that an elephant's gestation period is 22 months?  I would NOT want to be pregnant for that long!

50's Prime Time Cafe

Location: Disney's Hollywood Studios

BEST.  RESTAURANT. EVER.  Seriously this place has awesome food.  My favorite is the meatloaf, but the fried chicken is amazing too.  Themed after a 1950's sitcom home, your meal is prepared by "Mom" and you are the "cousins" that came to visit.  If you want an alcoholic beverage it will be prepared by "Dad" from his liquor cabinet.  Don't get caught with your elbows on the table or using bad manners or you will pay with public humiliation.  Also, there is a t.v. at almost every table.  Great food and great theming. 

Dapper Dans

The "Dapper Dans" is an awesome Barbershop Quartet in the Magic Kingdom.  While you may see them performing up and down Main Street USA, they are more often than not found hanging around the Harmony Barber Shop next to the Emporium.  On this day they made a special appearance to sing "Happy Birthday" to a young guest that was also getting a hair cut. 

Cinderella Castle

This is my favorite thing to take pictures of at Walt Disney World.  I have a lot of great pictures of the castle and will try to space them out :)  This particular picture was taken after the Wishes fireworks show.  There are over 200,000 LED lights adorning the castle.

World of Disney

Location: Downtown Disney

This store is located in the Marketplace section of Downtown Disney.  The store contains virtually any Disney item you could desire to purchase.  Beware of Stitch the prankster.  He tends to spit on guests as they walk by.

Rock 'n Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith

Location: Disney's Hollywood Studios

Time: Evening

This is one of our favorite rides at the Studios.  The ride is based on a high-speed limo ride to an Aerosmith concert.  This is the only ride at Walt Disney World that contains inversions.  There are a total of three in the ride.   Another exciting factor is the beginning of the ride in which you accelerate from 0-60 in 2.8 seconds.  This is the second fastest ride at Walt Disney World.  Can you guess which one is faster?  The ride opened in 1999 and is located at the end of Sunset Blvd. near the Tower of Terror and Fantasmic.  

Wishes

Location: Magic Kingdom

Time: Evening

Happy New Year!  Wishes is the current fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom.  The show debuted in 2003 and has been a hit amongst guests ever since.  "Wishes" replaced the 32-year-old "Fantasy in the Sky" fireworks show.
